Amoud University in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will offer a Master’s Degree program in environmental studies and climate change. The program is supported by UNDP’s Enhancing Climate Resilience of the Vulnerable Communities and Ecosystems project which is funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). The program is aimed at building the capacity of environmental governance through training a cadre of young professionals who could contribute to sustainable natural resources management by undertaking research in the environmental issues to inform policy making and regulatory frameworks for prudent environmental governance. Upon finishing the coursework, students will conduct research on the impacts of climate change in the most vulnerable regions and sectors of Somaliland/Somalia, the potential for adaptation and mitigation, natural resources management, and realization of environment related sustainable development goals. The program, which starts in September, with 30 students, will be hosted by Amoud and will be taught by highly qualified professors/lecturers with PhD from internationally recognized universities.
Conditions for applications
Candidates must be:-
- Citizens of Somaliland/Somalia
Holders of Bachelors Degree in any one of the following areas:
- Environmental Science, Environmental Education, Natural Resources Management,Geography, Geology, Meteorology, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Agriculture or rangeland management.
- Younger than 35 years
- People with high proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English language
UNDP will sponsor the expenses of the successful candidates which include their tuition fees for both partial and full scholarship winners and living and transportation costs only for full scholarship winners.
