Postgraduate Certificate Programme
The duration of the Postgraduate Certificate programme shall last between three (3) months to six (6) months. The programmes shall be designed by the respective Faculties and submitted to the Board of SPG&S through FPGSC. The Board of SPG&S shall forward the proposed programme with recommendations to Senate for approval.
Postgraduate Diploma Programme
The Postgraduate Diploma programme shall consist of a minimum of nine (9) units of coursework, examination and project distributed over two consecutive semesters as follows:

Students shall choose courses and topics for their projects in consultation with respective faculties. All candidates shall be required to participate in seminars arranged by their Departments.
Masters Degree Programme
1. The Masters Degree programme in all Faculties shall normally consist of coursework, examination and thesis normally extending over a period of two academic years distributed over four (4) semesters of full time/part-time attendance provided that part-time attendance shall not exceed a period of four calendar years from the date of registration.
2. A candidate shall normally submit a research proposal to the SPG&S within 2 weeks of the third semester.
3. Processing of the submitted research proposal shall take a maximum of four (4) weeks.
Doctoral Degree Programme
8.2.4.1 Curriculum Plan
Doctoral programme shall normally be offered by coursework, examination and thesis and shall have 32 credit units of coursework, one (1) unit of synopsis, four (4) units of research proposal, three (3) seminar units and ten (10) units of thesis distributed as shown below:

Thesis.

1. The Doctoral Programme shall normally extend over six (6) semesters in three (3) academic years and shall consist of three (3) parts. Part I shall consist of:
Coursework (covering 32 credit units) and examination, and shall last two (2) semesters of full-time study in the first academic year. During this first part of the doctoral programme, students shall take four (4) common courses and four (4) specialty courses.
ii. A synopsis. During this period, a student shall develop and submit three (3) copies of a research outline (synopsis) or a concept paper of the intended research not exceeding 500 words (in both hard copies and virus free CDs).
2. Proposal. Part II of the doctoral programme shall consist of proposal development and shall last one (1) semester in the first part of the second (2) academic year.
i. On successful completion of Part I and on recommendation of the FPGSC, a student shall proceed to develop a full research proposal in the relevant field which shall be part of the academic requirement for the award of the Doctorate degree.
A proposal shall be an independent paper and shall be examined and marked out of 100%.
3. Doctoral Seminar series and a thesis. Part III of the Doctoral programme shall consist of seminar series and a thesis.
i. Seminar Series shall be conducted from the fourth (4th) to sixth (6th) Semesters and shall be considered as coursework each carrying ONE (1) credit unit.
ii. There shall be three (3) doctoral seminars. A student shall present One (1) seminar paper each in the fourth (4th), fifth (5th) and sixth (6th) semesters. The seminar presentations shall normally be based on aspects of a student’s thesis.
The student shall carry out research during the fourth (4th), fifth (5th) and sixth (6th) semesters of the second (2nd) and third (3rd) year of registration and defend his or her thesis in a viva voce before a selected panel of examiners at the end of the sixth (6th) semester.
